New President At University Of California Berkeley
University of Texas Chancellor Mark Yudof has been appointed as the next president of the University of California Berkeley. Yudof will succeed the current president, Robert Dynes, who will leave his post before June.
Yudof will be the first president to be elected for this position outside the university campus which has more than 220,000 students and 170,000 faculty/staff members.
The Los Angeles Times reports that the competitive marketplace demands the university to offer a base salary of $591,084 and $237,000 in supplemental pension payments for such a good specialist and academic.
Yudof’s pay package makes him one of the country’s most highly compensated leaders at a public university. His compensation could go as high as $866,000 in future years, depending on supplemental pension payments. In addition, he will be eligible for a regular retirement benefit of $97,000.
According to UCSF Today, Yudof’s appointment was made during a special meeting of the university board last week.
Yudof previously was president of the University of Minnesota and a longtime faculty member, dean and provost at the University of Texas at Austin.
Yudof is quoted expressing his honor for having an opportunity to work with one of the prestigious universities of the States.
“The University of California stands as a model for the world, creating tomorrow’s leaders and innovators and helping to solve many of society’s most pressing problems. I can think of no greater personal privilege than to have the opportunity to lead this remarkable institution,” Yudof said.
