West Virgina Faculty Calls For President's Resignation
The academic staff at the West Virginia University has demanded its president Mike Garrison to resign for awarding a degree to Gov. Joe Manchin III’s daughter, which she didn’t earn. Garrison was already asked to resign less than a week ago.
The New York Times reports that the non binding resolution was approved by 565 to 39 at a meeting for all faculty members.
Last week, the 114-member Faculty Senate voted overwhelmingly to demand that Mr. Garrison resign. Mr. Garrison has refused, and Mr. Manchin and the university board of governors, appointed by the governor, have continued to support him.
Since this decision was unexpected as Garrison has the support of the board and of Gov. Manchin, who appointed most of its members, the University Assembly plans to hold a special meeting on 14 May.
According to NewsCahnnel8, the agenda of the meeting of the University Assembly was not immediately available.
