Summer Programs For High School Students: Part 3

Summer Programs For High School Students: Part 3If you remember, in my previous post we talked about summer programs for high school students provided by Cornell University and California Institute of the Arts. In this post I will speak about two other programs.

Michigan Tech Summer Youth Program. Each summer Michigan Tech hosts young people from all over the world offering them different programs, the duration of which last from a week to several weeks.

One-week courses include six different aspects: engineering, business, computing, humanities and social sciences, outdoor and environmental studies, science and technology.

Participants in a week-long course will spend about 32 hours in laboratories and classrooms developing their skills and gaining some new experience and knowledge. They may attend other courses as well when the week is up.

Summer Programs For High School Students: Part 3Harvard’s Secondary School Program. Summer courses offered by Harvard’s Secondary School are for more than 1,000 high school students from all over the world.

The subjects studied during summer school programs vary greatly: astronomy, computer science, creative writing, dramatic arts, economics, psychology, religion and numerous languages (the classics, English, Greek, Hindi, Chinese, Celtic Languages and Literature, Arabic, Germanic Languages and Literature, Italian, Japanese, Korean).

Harvard has the largest university library system in the world and all summer students will have a free access to it.

In case English is not a native language for you, a TOEFL test should be scheduled.

At the end of the program all students receive an official Harvard transcript with their credits, which are accepted in most universities and colleges.

Summer school programs help you to gain experience in selected fields, improve memory and concentration, get new friends, but first of all they contribute to your getting mature and independent.

In my next post I will talk about volunteer summer programs.
