Pros And Cons Of Online Schools
What are online k 12 schools? They are virtual schools which are created for students and educators.
In the process of technology development online learning gains more popularity. You can just participate in online courses for gaining supplement knowledge or instead of going to school you can study sitting in front of your computer.
What is important in online schools is the fact that the whole material can be sent to you and in advance you can view the curriculum for the whole year. The curriculum includes practice exercises, audio/video educatives, assessments and even games for stimulating and encouraging learning process.
Online k 12 schools have their advantages and disadvantages.
The advantages of online schools are the following. In online schools the number of students is not restricted, if you have a computer and internet connection you can easily participate in online learning courses. Online k 12 schools are helpful in cases if you want to learn but and it is difficult for you to reach even the nearest school. In this case you can stay at home and even hire a “virtual” teacher. In case of online learning the curriculum is adjusted to your schedule and you can learn whenever you have time.
An online education has also disadvantages. One of its disadvantages is the necessity for a child to be able to arrange his own timetable and be self-disciplined which is not an easy task for some children. Besides online schools restrict the teacher and student interaction, which can influence negatively on the learning process.
Examine carefully the advantages and disadvantages before enrolling your children in online k 12 schools. Children are the cornerstone of the country, so their education is very essential.
I have just participated in an online class discussing the value of communicating and collaborating online as it relates to education. As a school counselor I ofter refer my students to the online high schools in our communities for various reasons; traditional schooling doesn’t work for themor if they want to take additional courses. One downfall is the level of intelligence needed to master this type of learning. It is not for everyone. One other area I caution students that want to use this as a full time route to education, is the lack of personal/social aspects. The face to face interaction is lost whether it’s with teachers or fellow students, and I think this is such an important and vital piece for our youth. ONline education offers fabulous opportunities, but I definately feel caution needs to be taken.
