Angelina Jolie Highlights Iraqi Students' Plight

Angelina Jolie Highlights Iraqi Students' PlightThe ongoing war in Iraq obviously doesn’t allow the country’s school children and students to receive a proper education. This was one of the main issues raised by refugee advocate Angelina Jolie at a panel discussion sponsored by the Council on Foreign Relations on 8 April.

Education Week reports that Jolie was speaking against the war and was defending the rights of Iraqi students.

According to RTE.ie Entertainment, Jolie has also called for the education of Iraqi children to be given more attention and better funding.

“It is a fact that the best way to heal children in conflict and their trauma is to focus their minds on their future. This population we’re talking about is the future of Iraq. Every child has a right to education and conflict is not a reason to ignore that. We need these kids to rebuild their country, to stabilize their country and, eventually, to lead their country,” Jolie said.
