Virtual Schools Still Open In Wisconsin
Once considered unacceptable, online education now seems to become an inseparable part of the curriculum in some Western schools, colleges and universities. Administrators and professionals in the field keep on saying that the Internet is a source and a tool to receive advanced education.
Nowadays, more and more Western colleges offer complete online associates degree programs and far more students in online universities and traditional colleges have found that taking online community college courses is an easy way to complete their missing credits.
The North American Council for Online Learning (NACOL), a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering a learning landscape, reports that virtual schools operate in 18 states in the United States of America and enroll more than 90,000 students.
The debate over online education between state administrators and schools in state Wisconsin has come to an end and the result is a mutual compromise. Education Week reports that allowing parents and their kids to choose “virtual schools help keep Wisconsin a national leader in education policy.”
Virtual schools allow students to learn from home under the guidance of their parents and instructors who teach over the Internet. They are a growing and popular option for families who want their children to learn from home instead of at traditional public schools.
The magazine also quotes Brett Davis, the chair of the Assembly education committee, commenting on the court’s solution of the problem.
“Our compromise allows virtual schools to continue while ensuring quality standards and accountability. We heard from students, families and administrators.is said. “This is a big win for them and they should be pleased.”
