Leaders Of "F" Schools Will Get Bonuses

Leaders Of "F" Schools Will Get BonusesWhen Michael R. Bloomberg, the mayor of New York City, released that the state had graded all of state schools on a scale of A through F, the Acorn school principals and assistant principals were set to get bonuses for their outstanding academic achievements. Along with the Acorn school, administrators at four other schools that received F’s, and five that earned D’s, are also listed as eligible schools for the bonuses.

The New York Times reports that the bonuses range from $5,500 to $15,000 for principals and from $2,750 to $7,500 for assistant principals.

According to the list, posted on the Web site of the Council of School Supervisors and Administrators, the union representing principals and assistant principals, other F schools whose administrators are eligible for the bonus are William H. Maxwell Career and Technical Education High School and Automotive High School, both in Brooklyn, and the Legacy School for Integrated Studies in Manhattan.

Robert Jackson, the chairman of the City Council Education Committee, is quoted commenting on the state’s decision to give out bonuses to school principals.

“I think an explanation is clearly appropriate. It doesn’t make common sense. It doesn’t line up,” Jackson said.
