Special Teachers
Mentally or physically disabled children need special education. This means a combination of special teaching materials and methods and teachers with appropriate degree.
Special teachers are engaged with their education. They should have bachelor’s degree in special teaching, while in and in some schools master’s degree is required.
Teachers treat special children in a special way. If the teacher sees that a child can’t finish the task on time, she lengthens the time or read the question orally. If the teacher sees that a child is tired or depressed, she gives the child a rest.
Each classroom should have a special arrangement of desks for special children. Children with disabilities should have their own desk in the classroom, they should not sit in pairs as it may distract their attention. The classroom should have special area where students can go after finishing their tasks to read books with pictures, play puzzles and so on. This area is very important for special children, because they need more free time than the others.
Special teachers use different methods of teaching. The materials they use are adapted to the needs of disabled kids. They practice speech-language therapy to develop kids’ communication skills. These kids also need adapted physical therapy to develop motoring’ skills.
Apart from all specially designed and adapted materials, special teachers practice individualized approach to every student in need. They change therapies and materials accordingly. Teachers also work with parents informing about their children progresses and suggesting some techniques that parents can use to promote learning at home as well.
Special teachers are doing their best for disabled children to feel themselves part of the society.
