Create A Welcoming Workspace
Published June 25, 2010
In order to always be productive and do efficient work, you have to motivate and inspire yourself and find the best styles of learning.
It doesn’t matter if you are a workaholic or not, there always comes a time when you just can’t make yourself sit at your desk and start studying. This is why you need to arrange your work space so that it will always help you stay concentrated.
- The first point and most important of all is the lighting. Choose bright but soft lighting. If you do a lot of reading, bright lighting is very important, but if you have to write an essay and you need to do a lot more thinking and planning than reading, a lamp will be a good option.
- If you get distracted soon, don’t place your desk against the window. In the mornings or afternoons there might be a lot of noise and distractions that definitely won’t let you go on with your study.
- If you are a night owl and your neighborhood is not very noisy, feel free to place your desk near the window. It creates a very helpful atmosphere, especially when it rains. The sound of the raindrops are magical and this is one of the easiest, most natural ways to get inspired.
- Don’t bring food or coffee with you to your desk. Whenever you feel hungry or need to get refreshed, take 10 minutes and go to the kitchen to have a cup of coffee or something to eat. Otherwise, even taking a small sip of your coffee will distract you.
- Sometimes we need additional inspiration for work or studying, especially when dealing with numbers. For this reason, take time to search on the Internet and find quotes that will bring new and fresh ideas or just stimulate a desire to study. Here are some of my favorite inspirational quotes that always help me:
- “Three Rules of Work: Out of clutter find simplicity; From discord find harmony; In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.” — Albert Einstein
- “A learned man is an idler who kills time by study.” — George Bernard Shaw
- “People forget how fast you did a job – but they remember how well you did it.” — Howard Newton
- “Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere.” –Chinese Proverb
- And always remember that the better you study, the more rewarding it will be.
