Your Learning Style Will Help With Exams

Your Learning Style Will Help With ExamsExams, again… With so much to learn, some exam help would be quite useful.

Do you often find it difficult to perceive or memorize materials? Psychologists claim that it depends not on what you learn, but on how you learn.

According to American psychologist Robert J. Sternberg, when talking about learning styles, there are three groups of people.

Visual learners are people who learn information with their eyes–they need to see things to learn. If you are a visual learner, you need to prepare for an exam by reading texts. While reading try to imagine each sentence you read as a picture, diagram, or whatever you want. The more imaginary images you create, the better you will memorize the text you are reading. You can also write down the main idea of the text. When you see it, you will understand it better.

Auditory learners learn by hearing, and they best understand things they hear from others. If you realize that you are an auditory learner, try to read texts aloud. If you have time, you can record yourself while reading and then playback the recording. Or ask a friend to read or explain it to you on the phone. You are lucky, because unlike visual learners, you remember everything you heard spoken at the lectures. Well, if you were listening, that is.

Kinesthetic learners best understand things which they feel. When your learning something, associate it with your experiences. Link all the important aspects of the exam material to some events or things you have experienced, and you will remember them for a very long time.

So, what is more comfortable for you when learning new things–seeing, hearing or feeling?

I am a visual learner. I have found that most people I am friends with are also. We recently took a pole with all the students I know in the program I’m in for online high school and 60% were visual learners, about 30% were kinesthetic, and 20% audio learners.

For me easiest way is learning through practice, but I also enjoy learning using books, so I suppose I am more visual learner.
