Bad Handwriting? Improve It!
A lot of people in my family say that a person’s handwriting shows the emotional state he/she is in. But what if your handwriting isn’t so neat? Does it mean you’re always stressed or angry?
Of course not. You simply didn’t pay much attention to your handwriting when learning how to write.
If you feel that it’s time to undo those mistakes, here is some information you might find useful.
If you don’t have nice handwriting, it’s most probably because of the wrong muscles you use while writing. If you use only the muscles of your forearm to write (meaning you move only your forearm, while your arm and shoulder don’t move at all), a lot of people won’t understand what you’ve written.
The best way is to practice by including your arm and shoulder in the writing process. The forearm should calmly rest on the paper and follow your shoulder muscles. Almost all right-handed and left-handed people who have bad handwriting, move their arm and shoulder occasionally across the paper.
For left-handed people it’s much more difficult as they try to adjust their forearm position in a way that it doesn’t block what they wrote and doesn’t smear the ink. They keep their forearm above the line they’re writing which makes the process even more tiring.
Lefties should start using special pens made especially for left-handed writing. They might be more expensive than common pens but are definitely going to be more comfortable.
In addition to that, if you write using the muscles in your arm and shoulder, your hand will not get tired quickly as it would if you keep writing with your forearm. This can be a very useful study skill and a big help during long lectures and note taking.
